Bristol Ariel has a Learn to Row pathway for complete beginners or those with only a little experience of the sport. The pathway consists of:

  • EasyRow Proficiency Assessment

  • A Level 1 Foundation Day

  • The Level 2 Learn to Row Course

Over these sessions we will cover the basics of rowing and water safety. Sessions will mostly be on the water, with the occasional land-based session. We will start by teaching you sculling (two oars) and later we will teach you sweep rowing (one oar).

The only requirement is that you are able to swim 50 metres, fully clothed.

If you are interested, please fill in the form below and we will contact you will the full details.

How do I join the course?

If you would like to join the Level 1 and 2 courses you will first need to attain your EasyRow proficiency certificate. EasyRow is our pathway to rowing. Sessions on these stable rowing craft are available from 1 April up until 31 October (weather and river conditions permitting)

Find out more about EasyRow here on our website. You can book your EasyRow Taster sessions through our GymSync app. Details will be forwarded to you on submission of your interest.

To register your interest, click on the button below and complete the form.  Just choose ‘rowing’ from the ‘Primary Interest’ section and we’ll be in touch.  Details of the pathway to rowing at Bristol Ariel Rowing Club will be sent to you within 48 hours.

What happens after the LEVEL 2 course finishes?

After the Level 2 Learn to Row course, we hope you will join the club and keep rowing with us at Bristol Ariel.

You will join the novice squad, which includes both men and women, with weekly coached sessions on water and on land. You’ll also have access to club gym sessions and our clubhouse facilities.

We will support the development of your rowing skills and your fitness levels so you can move into the men’s and women’s development squads if you think you’d like to have a go at racing or join our Club section if you think you’d enjoy being on the river for recreation just as much.
